Cordova Bay Records is delighted to announce their collaboration with renowned piano player, David Vest. Cordova Bay first came into contact with David Vest through his contributions to David Gogo’s albums, Christmas With The Blues (2012) and Come On Down (2013) and we are ecstatic about expanding that relationship further. David Vest is currently writing and recording a new album that will be released through Cordova Bay Records this spring.
Although he now calls Canada home, David Vest is an authentic, Southern-bred boogie-woogie piano player and blues shouter. He has an incredible performance history, including opening for Roy Orbison on New Year’s Day 1962, jamming with Ace Cannon, Bill Black’s Combo and the Jimmy Dorsey Band, backing Big Joe Turner, and touring extensively with Jimmy T99 Nelson and Miss Lavelle White. From 2002 through 2006, David shared lead vocals and frontman duties with the Paul deLay Band, culminating in his performance on an award-winning live CD, which reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s national blues chart. After deLay’s untimely death, Vest joined forces with Kenny ‘Blues Boss’ Wayne and various other pianists, including Ann Rabson, to form the supergroup Northwest Pianorama.
Vest tours extensively, including festival appearances at the Tremblant International Blues Festival, Seattle’s Bumbershoot, the King Biscuit Festival, the Portland Waterfront Blues Festivall, the Winthrop Rhythm & Blues Festival, the Edmonton Labatt’s Blues Festival, the Calgary Blues Festival, the Baltimore Blues Festival, Houston’s Juneteenth Festival, the Ritzville Blues Festival, the Salem Arts Festival, and the New Orleans Jazz Heritage Festival (with Miss Lavelle White).
In 2012 he recorded and released East Meets Vest, backed by members of Downchild and Fathead. Holger Petersen of CBC Saturday Night Blues called it, "One of the best Canadian blues albums of 2012," and it has been nominated for the Recording Of The Year award at this year’s Maple Blues Awards. Vest won the award for Keyboard/Piano Player Of The Year at the 2012 awards and has again been nominated in that category this year. The 17th Annual Maple Blues Awards will be presented this evening in a ceremony at Koerner Hall in Toronto. The ceremony features performances from David Vest, MonkeyJunk, The 24th Street Wailers, Charlie A’Court, and Little Miss Higgins.
